A grateful farewell
LYNN KING of Alberta retired this month from her position as executive director and registrar of the Alberta College of Social Workers. She also stepped down from the role of president of the Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators. In sharing the news with ASWB, LYNN wrote, “I want to relay sincerest appreciation for the collegial and collaborative results that we have achieved together over the past few years. … I am most grateful for the opportunity of working alongside you and offer my sincere thanks to each leader for your dedication and passion in our profession.” LYNN has been an active participant in ASWB programs, presenting on facilitating interjurisdictional practice at the 2018 education conference, “Developing Tools for Social Work Mobility.”
ACE shares expertise
LISA CASLER HAUN, who leads the ASWB ACE program as the manager of continuing competence and continuing education services, spoke on a panel at the conference of the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions in San Francisco this January. The session, Joint Accreditation Associate Members Panel: Increasing Access to Interprofessional Continuing Education, included representatives of organizations that increase access to continuing education by collaborating with Joint Accreditation. “It was a very well-attended session,” LISA says. “Many CE providers were there who were curious about adding one or more of our ACE credit types to their courses for their learners.” Shown at the podium is Antoinette Minniti, associate executive director, office of CE sponsor approval, American Psychological Association. January surprise
During its January meeting in Culpeper, Virginia, the ASWB Board of Directors enjoyed a reception with the staff. In his remarks, President HAROLD DEAN of Arkansas told employees they were the first to learn the news of the selection of DWIGHT HYMANS as incoming CEO. Everyone greeted the announcement enthusiastically, offering sustained applause. Later that evening, Board members enjoyed a tour of the almost-completed new headquarters.
Repping ASWB in Africa
ASWB Board of Directors member DEBORAH JONES of British Columbia has been carrying her ASWB water bottle along on her African travels. Last year she took it to Egypt, and this year it went with her to Rwanda and Uganda. She also wrote about her two-hour trek in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park in search of gorillas. “We spent an amazing hour with the family in their environment, and it was absolutely exhilarating!” DEBORAH says. “I was bumped into three times by gorillas en route to somewhere else!”
