Data system improvements enhance exam registration

Last month, ASWB moved its largest dataset into ASWBCentral, the web-based system that serves as the backbone of the association’s online operations. With this deployment, more than 20 years of exam data moved into the system, offering exam candidates and regulatory boards a better experience in updating information and finding the data they need from ASWB.

Crucially, the system will allow for integration with data systems as exam administration transitions to Pearson VUE. Thanks to ASWBCentral, test-takers will have a single account where they can register for the exam and connect directly with Pearson VUE to schedule their testing appointments. “This is a much simpler, smoother experience for exam candidates,” says Dan Sheehan, ASWB’s director of information technology. “Instead of logging in at ASWB and then having to create another account at Pearson, they access all their exam-related tasks through a single ASWB dashboard.”

Sheehan also says that ASWB member boards will have direct access to more data now that the exam registration system has moved into ASWBCentral. “Staff at our member boards can get to much more information following this deployment,” he says.

“This was our biggest data migration ever,” Sheehan says. “And there are always unanticipated hiccups, but this system was designed for ongoing improvement.” He points out that since the February 14 upgrade, his team has already deployed about a dozen performance improvements. “We always welcome feedback from our members,” Sheehan says, pointing out that members can email itservices@aswb.org with suggestions for software improvements.

“Adding this exam registration component to ASWBCentral will really improve the experience of our members and our customers,” Sheehan says. “Data systems are most useful when they empower people to accomplish what they need to do.”
