ASWB donates nearly $24,000 to nonprofit organizations
Charitable donations part of ASWB’s commitment in support of Social Work Census
The Association of Social Work Boards today announced charitable donations totaling $23,965 to 13 nonprofit organizations in connection with the Social Work Census. As part of its efforts to encourage participation in the Social Work Census, ASWB — along with members of the Social Work Workforce Coalition — identified 13 nonprofit organizations to receive donations on behalf of individuals who completed the survey.
Launched in March 2024 and running through the end of June 2024, the Social Work Census was the first-ever profession-wide study of who today’s social workers are and what they are doing in their practice. The Census was composed of two parts: a workforce study and an analysis of the practice of social work. Findings from the Census will support the development of a more inclusive and equitable social work workforce and will be used in designing future competence assessments for social work licensure.
“We recognized the importance of the data derived from this historic undertaking, and we made this commitment as a way to encourage social workers’ participation in the survey,” said ASWB CEO Stacey Hardy-Chandler, Ph.D., J.D., LCSW, PGDip. “We are thrilled to not only celebrate the successful completion of the Social Work Census but to also contribute to the important work being done by these organizations.”

In total, approximately 82,000 social workers across the United States and Canada began initial responses to the Social Work Census. Of those respondents, more than 52,000 individuals completed responses to the workforce study component. More than 27,000 individuals also completed responses to the practice analysis. Findings from the workforce study are being analyzed by Dr. Joy Kim, associate professor at the Rutgers University School of Social Work, and final reports on the data will be shared with the social work profession after analysis is completed in early 2025.
Social Work Workforce Coalition members identified 13 nonprofits based in the United States and Canada to receive donations as directed by respondents. ASWB pledged to fund donations on behalf of Census participants. Census respondents who completed both components of the Social Work Census were invited to select one organization to receive a $1 donation to be pooled with $1 donations from other respondents selecting the same organization. Recipients include organizations connected to the social work profession and causes that are aligned with social work values.
