Requesting nonstandard testing arrangements for a disability or other health condition

ASWB requires that you request and receive approval for nonstandard testing arrangements before registering for your licensing exam.

To request nonstandard testing arrangements for a disability or other health condition, you and your practitioner must provide information about your diagnosis, major life activities limited by your diagnosis, and other important details about your needs.

Before continuing with your request, read the ASWB Nonstandard Testing Arrangements Handbook.

  • Request nonstandard testing arrangements

    • Log in to your account. If you do not have an account, create one using your email address.
    • Click on Request Accommodations to access your accommodations dashboard.
    • Select ADA as your request type in the drop-down list.
    • Click the green Begin New Request button
    • Fill out the application, clicking Next at the bottom right of the screen at the end of each page.
    • After you complete the application, click Finish.

Tip

If you begin a request and change your mind, you must delete your incomplete request before you can register for an exam. Click on the three dots to the right side of your request and select delete.

Your part

Prepare the following before beginning your request:

  • Your diagnosis(es) and the accommodations you are requesting
  • Your practitioner’s contact information or the required practitioner form.
  • Your personal statement, which offers you an opportunity to provide more details about your request
  • Your medical release
  • Supporting documentation
    •  Required: If you have a diagnosed learning disability, you must upload a copy of your most current psychological evaluation that confirms your learning disability and recommendations for testing in a standardized testing environment.
    • Optional: You may also upload other helpful supporting documentation during the process, such as documentation of past arrangements

Practitioner’s part

The practitioner(s) who evaluated you, is familiar with your condition, and is qualified to make your specific diagnosis(es)* must submit the required form using one of the following options:

  • Option 1: If the applicant has provided the practitioner’s email address in the practitioner section of the online application, the practitioner will receive an electronic form to complete by email. The applicant will be copied on the email.  The practitioner must complete and submit the form electronically.
  • Option 2: Before you begin the online application process, download a pdf of the request form and complete Part II with the practitioner. Submit the form as supporting documentation when completing the online request form.
  • Option 3: Download a pdf of the request form and complete the entire form. You will complete Part II with the practitioner. Mail the complete form with original ink signatures to:

*If you are seeking nonstandard testing arrangements for a learning disability and you used nonstandard testing arrangements in college but are not currently being treated by a psychologist, you may have the practitioner section completed by disability resource center (DRC) staff at the college/university that you attended. The DRC office will also be required to upload a signed letter detailing the testing arrangements you received and the duration of those accommodations. If you cannot obtain this documentation, then the practitioner’s form must be filled out by a practitioner.
