Please give a brief biography, including your education, licensure or certification level and employment history:

I hold an MSSW from University of Texas at Arlington (1997). I was employed with Texas Child Protective Services from 1990 to 2001 where I was an investigator, Foster Care and Adoption worker, and finally an administrator in Family Based Safety Services providing supervision for employees working the highest risk cases. I moved to higher education in 2001 and have been Field Director for both the BSW and MSW programs. I am licensed in Texas as LMSW-IPR and have held that honor for 20+ years. I am married with three adult children and my wife, and I are parenting two nieces and a nephew ages 10, 12, & 14 due to their parents being deceased related to drug issues. We raise cattle and hay on a little more than 800 acres, and we have rental homes in our local geographic area. I have served on a multitude of local Boards and Commissions over my career. I do believe in giving back and volunteering to have a role in improving the lives of others.

Give a synopsis of your regulatory and professional experience. Please emphasize your involvement with ASWB:

I have served on the Texas Board of Social Worker Examiners since 2016. During my board tenure, I have chaired the Ethics Committee and worked to align sanctions with rules and develop a ‘Brown Bag’ listening session for licensees to provide input for decision making. I have served as Chair of the Texas Board for three years. I am a member of NASW-TX and previously served in an elected role with NASW. I have been a member of the social work faculty at Texas A & M-Commerce since 2001 and a member of the Texas Field Educators Consortium. I have been involved with CSWE via my employment. To maintain my professional skills and ability to remain up to date in practice, I have worked part-time as a Compliance Officer for Red River Counseling, provided hospice and home health social work services to various agencies, and served as a consultant to varied Texas Counties Juvenile Probation organizations.

Finally, make a brief statement on the major issues you see facing ASWB, and how you would address them:

I see vast opportunities to educate and provide insight into the role ASWB plays in maintaining social work as a title-protected profession. I can build relationships within the community to allow for honest discussion with stakeholders. I see the role of ASWB as one of educational mediation. While many involved in the world of licensure hold their own agenda, I believe ASWB and its volunteers have made great strides in listening, truly listening to understand where others voice opinions and how we (ASWB) can play a role in protecting vulnerable populations while maintaining a valid and defensible exam that seeks to meet minimum expectations of a profession.
