Please give a brief biography, including your education, licensure or certification level and employment history:

I am a LMSW and a retired Child Welfare Program Manager from the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. I worked for over 30 yrs in multiple facets of social service delivery. I have worked in direct and supervisory roles in Family Services, Foster Care, Child Protection Investigations Sexual Abuse Exploitation/Fatalities, and Title IV-E. I have served as an agency liaison for the Sexual Abuse Task Force, CASA Child Advocacy Center, and the Rape Crisis Program. Prior to becoming involved in social work regulation, I earned a Licensed Practical Nurse diploma, bachelor’s degree, Master of Social Work, and Post-Master’s Certificate in Childhood Traumatic Stress. I have also served as a Children’s Bureau Title IV-E Peer Reviewer, Federal Grant Peer Reviewer, and Contract Writer for the Grambling State University Advanced Supervisors Certificate Program. I have served 11 years on the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners which was my introduction to social work regulation. I remain actively involved in the social work profession, as I am currently serving my 2nd term on the ASWB BOD and as President of the Lincoln Parish Council on Aging Board of Directors.

Give a synopsis of your regulatory and professional experience. Please emphasize your involvement with ASWB:

I was appointed by three governors to four terms on the Louisiana Board of Social Work Examiners in 2011. During my tenure on the Louisiana Board, I served as secretary/treasurer, as well as contributed to several committees. My involvement with ASWB began with attendance at New Board Member Training in 2012. This opportunity expanded my regulatory knowledge base and fostered my engagement in serving on ASWB committees and task forces. Since 2012, I have attended delegate assembly and the spring education meetings, providing me with the opportunity to network and learn from my fellow regulatory colleagues. I served as a facilitator for the World Cafe at the 2015 education meeting and have participated in many ASWB Board Member Exchange meetings and Leadership Development and orientation sessions. I have served as chair and Board liaison to the Bylaws and Resolutions Committee, chair of Nominating Committee, and Board liaison to the Regulations and Standards Committee. My work with the Nominating Committee compiling an election slate for the Board of Directors contributed to my advancement as a social work regulator and interest in governance which led me to run for the ASWB BOD.

Finally, make a brief statement on the major issues you see facing ASWB, and how you would address them:

As a candidate for President-Elect, I plan to continue contributing to the social work profession by being a part of the solution. The major issues I see facing ASWB are interstate mobility and universal license recognition. I am eager to lend my talents to enhancing the mobility of social workers and improving access to professional social work services as we work to activate an interstate compact. Despite numerous diverse factors of each jurisdiction, it is essential to the ASWB vision of licensure for all social workers. As President-Elect, I am interested in working to evaluate the findings of the Social Work Census and continuing to lead a more inclusive process to ensure that social work licensing competence measurements are aligned with the future of our profession. The current regulatory landscape is shifting, and I am enthusiastic about developing social work standards and practice guidelines that remain relevant to the landscape across Canadian provinces and the United States. I know what it takes to be successful and with your votes, I will be able to demonstrate that for you because the actions we can take independently and together will define the future.
