North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board

Term ends: June 2025

Please give a brief biography, including your education, licensure or certification level and employment history:

I am an experienced senior executive with over two decades of leadership in social work and program development, currently serving as Chief Operating Officer for Brunswick Senior Resources, Inc. (BSRI). In this role, I oversee the operations of five senior centers, managing a $6 million budget and a team of over 50 professionals. My leadership has been instrumental in increasing community impact, providing services to approximately 15,000 seniors across Brunswick County, North Carolina. My experience extends into academia as an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where I aligned student training with CSWE accreditation standards. I hold a Master of Social Work from New York University and a bachelor’s in sociology from Stony Brook University. I am a Certified Master Social Worker currently serving as Chairperson of the North Carolina Social Work Board. These combined experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of both the regulatory and operational aspects of the profession, making me well suited to contribute meaningfully to ASWB’s mission of public protection and advancing the social work profession.

Give a synopsis of your regulatory and professional experience. Please emphasize your involvement with ASWB:

In 2019, I was appointed to the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board. I began serving as Chairperson in 2020, working alongside the executive director to lead initiatives that ensure compliance with licensure standards and uphold the integrity of the social work profession. I collaborate closely with fellow board members and board staff to review licensure applications and enforce ethical standards, which has provided me with a strong understanding of the regulatory processes that protect our citizens and communities in North Carolina.

I routinely engage with ASWB through various roles, including serving as a delegate, panelist for education meetings, and attendee at Board Member Exchange (BMX) sessions. Additionally, I chair the Regulations and Standards (RAS) Committee. I am particularly proud of my work in helping to modernize regulatory processes to address the changing landscape of social work, including the growing importance of telehealth and cross-state licensure portability through the Social Work Licensure Compact.

Finally, make a brief statement on the major issues you see facing ASWB, and how you would address them:

One of the most critical issues facing the social work profession today is licensure portability. As Secretary, a role requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex regulatory matters clearly, I see the Social Work Licensure Compact as a vital solution to this challenge. Having served on the committee that drafted this legislation, I have firsthand experience with the collaborative process of creating a streamlined framework that allows social workers to obtain multistate licenses.

In my role as Secretary, I would leverage my attention to detail and collaborative nature to facilitate meaningful discussions among board members, in addition to managing meeting agendas and legal notifications. Through clear communication and the timely dissemination of information, my goal would be to keep licensure portability at the forefront of ASWB’s efforts, focusing on reducing barriers for social workers while upholding ASWB’s mission to protect the public.
